Punjab Urial are found in the northwestern and southwestern hilly areas of the Punjab region. The hunting areas are primarily in the Salt Ranges, located between the Indus and Jhelum rivers. Only a few protected areas in the eastern Salt Ranges allow hunting for Punjab Urial.
The hunting season for Punjab Urial starts as early as October 1st and runs through the end of February. Early and late season hunts may be challenging due to high temperatures. The best period for a comfortable hunt is between mid-November and mid-January, offering optimal weather conditions. Success rates are nearly 100%, making timing primarily about comfort.
Guests are treated with exceptional hospitality, staying in family guest houses where each guest has a private bedroom and bathroom. The guest houses are located near the hunting areas, which can be reached within 15-60 minutes.
Hunters are required to fly into Islamabad, where they will be met by a representative to assist with rifle clearance. The hunting areas are accessible by a 1½ to 4-hour drive from Islamabad on mostly asphalt roads.
The Salt Ranges in Punjab reach elevations between 1,640 and 3,280 feet (500 to 1,000 meters) above sea level, and hunting typically takes place within these elevations.
Punjab experiences a semi-arid climate with significant seasonal and daily temperature fluctuations. January is the coldest month, with temperatures dropping to around 40°F (4°C) and daytime temperatures averaging 62°F (17°C). February temperatures may reach up to 80°F (27°C), with an average of around 70°F (21°C). December experiences similar temperatures to February.
Each day begins with a hearty breakfast at the guest house, followed by a 15-60 minute drive to the hunting area. Hunting is done on foot, with the guidance of local experts. Due to the presence of domestic goats grazing in the area, Punjab Urial are often skittish, adding a challenge to the hunt.
This hunt is scheduled for 7 days, including 2 days of travel and 5 full hunting days. Most hunts conclude successfully within the first 3 days.
